About TD Performance — Built from Experience, Moving Forward
The name TD Performance — people often think it stands for Turbo Diesel… but the truth is, it came from the original owners: Tonya and Darren.
Back in the late 1990s, Tonya and Darren ran the business with what was, at the time, the biggest vehicle database of its kind. They even advertised on cinema screens nationwide — ambitious stuff. But as time went on, things weren’t moving forward. That’s where Jason came in.
Jason bought into the company around 1998–1999, and by 2003 he’d taken it fully under his wing. He quickly realised the work wasn’t being done as it should be — so he went straight to the source. He travelled to Germany, met the manufacturers, learned the real methods, and brought that knowledge home.
He worked with early tools like ByteShooter — a name only the longest-serving in the trade will remember. Discontinued in the early 2000s, it set the standard in its day — and mastering it taught us the fundamentals that still guide us: understand the code, respect the process, never guess.
By 2005 the business was solid — and in 2009 I arrived. I’m Colin Smith. Before me, there were receptionists and helpers keeping things running — but nobody with a background in IT and software. For me, it was perfect: computers were my passion, fast cars were my love — remapping and diagnostics? Exactly where I wanted to be.
Between us, we’ve grown TD Performance steadily. We don’t chase every trend — we focus on what we do best. We’ve moved forward with the industry too — AutoTuner and the latest tools are now what we work with, keeping up with the best operators across the world.
Our reputation has always been about going the extra mile — literally. Jason once flew all the way to Cyprus to sort an ECU for a customer. That trip led us to Dragos Voina from TCM Turbo in Romania — now our trusted software developer. We meet him at the Nürburgring every other year — not just for work, but because we’re friends.
